Our Vision
Our vision is to establish FSOL as a leading Syrian initiative dedicated to documenting plant biodiversity across the country in an accessible and user-friendly format. We aim to contribute as volunteers to raising public awareness at all levels of society and across all sectors. We have shared this vision with local communities, students, and NGOs, particularly in relation to the protection and sustainable use of plant biodiversity. Our mission is to initiate and support activities in research, data collection, information exchange, and plant documentation throughout Syria. As part of this mission, FSOL uses the Arabic language to describe plant biodiversity at the species level. We are committed to developing training materials and educational approaches for a new generation of botanists and ecologists in Syria, as well as in other Arabic-speaking countries. FSOL aims to provide a unified and comprehensive description of Syrian flora, including photographs and illustrations of most species, as well as distribution maps highlighting varieties of particular importance. Our data collection efforts cover all regions of Syria. Upon completion, this work will contribute directly to the development of a national project to publish a modern flora of Syria.
